The timetable is now complete, so it's GM pre-booking time again!

In return for their awesomeness, anyone GMing a game at Furnace also gets to pre-book in another game on a 1 for 1 basis. For those new to the system, here's how it works:

1. Go and check out our most excellent timetable and accompanying game details at http://www.rpgfurnace.com/games.
2. Find a game you want to play.
3. Make sure it doesn't clash with a game you're running!
4. Email me at elaine.e.mccourt@gmail.com and tell me you want to pre-book a slot in that game.
5. If you're running more than 1 game, repeat for each additional game.

Couple of notes:
1. No more than half of a game's total slots can be pre-booked (max. of two pre-bookings for a 4 or 5 player game, three pre-bookings for a 6 player game).
2. Have a reserve in mind in case someone gets there before you!

Since my last post on this thread, I've read:

The War Hound and the World's Pain (M. Moorcock)

I liked the set-up of this, and the semi-historical setting, but it ended up feeling like a very formulaic Moorcock fantasy.

Ilium (D. Simmons)

Basically far-future science fiction crossed with the Iliad. And it somehow really worked, though I did find I was much more interesting in some plot strands than others. Still, recommended.

The Jewel in the Skull and Mad God's Amulet (M. Moorcock)

A reread of the first two Hawkmoon novels. Fast-paced and overall good stuff. I really like the future Europe world.

We are currently playing the Savage North OpenQuest campaign in Sheffield on Tuesday nights (Nether Edge or London Road way) and are keen to invite 2 additional players able to commit about 3/4 of their nights to play the game with us for a further 2 months or so.

OpenQuest is a close relative of RuneQuest, BRP, Cthulhu, etc.. and the game is a fantasy homage to Conan crossed with the Norse or Anglo Saxons.

Read more here: http://d101games.co.uk/books/openquest/the-savage-north/

We're all 30-40+ and would look to play with peeps from late 20s to 90s, and we play from 7pm to 11pm.

Drop me a line if you are interested.

There are no plans to change anything this year. The scrum is relatively minor but seems to work well enough.

I tend to hang back and sign up lastish, relying on my GM allowed 'advanced booking(s)' for a place in a game that I very particularly want to play. It really helps that the quality of game is so high!

I'm now struggling to think what use I would, genuinely, have for Windows. My Mac's doing just about everything I need to do. Once I've bought a larger display to plug in then I'll be home and free.

Welcome to the Light Side, young paduan.
The answer is a very few programmes, and even then you can usually approach the task from another angle.

BTW there is a wholly free virtualisation product from Sun/Oracle called Virtualbox which I have used, and runs on OS X (and Windows and Linux):

Less than a week to go to Concrete Cow 10½ on 11 September, and time to remind you all of the wonderful things that will be happening!

First, there's games! Lots of games! Read the list and quiver in anticipation of all the fun you'll have playing all those games! But there's still time to add your masterpiece to the list and drum up a bit of interest before the event. (In fact, one was added while I was writing this post!)

Then, there's traders! Leisure Games will be there with lots of shiny books and boxes, and Reapers Revenge will be there with lots of shiny polyhedra (and some not-so-shiny second-hand games). Bob the Diceman also says that he's got stacks of Fudge dice available, which appear to be rarer than hens' teeth at the moment.

And there's lunch! The Verandah Talk restaurant, just over the road from the Old Bath House, are once again offering us a special deal on their lunch buffet. Great food, and bizarre non-alcoholic cocktails.

And a Guest of Honour! Andy Kenrick will be there, running games of Dead of Night 2 all day (literally).

Oh, and there'll also be rooms full of gamers having a great time all day. You know you want to come along and join us!

Come along to Concrete Cow, for the most* fun you can have with your clothes on!

Neil.

I ran the Mongoose Living Traveller adventure: A FESTIVE OCCASION.

It's a well constructed adventure with a nice plot and some good twists.

However it assumes loyal Imperial agents who support the nobility and will in all ways buy into the social order.

Right.. my bunch of neo-anarchist liberal democratic republican players found this a bit of a stretch personally and since the pregen PCs don't in any way state a political outlook or allegiance (and the Living Traveller games can be played by any PC) they proceeded to opppose the Imperials, undermine the nobility and plot to rip them all off.

Which was fun.. took me a short while to rewire my head and remap all the adventure inside out and upside down, but in the end they had a good time and ended up as new crime lords on Mora and allowed Duke Norris and all his friends (and competitors) to look quite weak in the face of Ine Givar terrorists.

I was struck by how little information there is on the Ine Givar, their political agenda, objectives or motivations.. in fact it made me realise how non ideological most of the OTU is, with the exception of the Solomani..

                                      Posted: Sun Sep 05, 2010 4:54 pm

So.. to conclude for now..

The deep frozen agent was.. dead.. oh no.. but with the help of the medics and ICT people they decrypted part of his brain (apparently Imperial secret agents encrypt parts of their brains..) and it was clear that a Solomani Research Station at Carcemish was pursuing a deeply dangerous and also embarassing research programme. The PCs were assigned to investigate on a 'plausible deniability' basis.

There then followed the classic Traveller adventure "Death Station", but with a slight twist. The Solomani, or more accurately a sub set of SolSec, were investigating genetically keyed pathogens and viruses to target Vegans from the Vegan Polity. After some pleasingly scary lurking in corridors, exploring tunnels and generally spooking themselves, the players decided to record everything and blow the station when 2 Solomani cruisers jumped into system... followed by the Azhanti High Lightning, on cue..

One dead cruiser later and the PCs and all the evidence were on their way back to Imperial space.. with a new story that will deeply embarass the Solomani, reinforce Vegan opposition to the Confederation and perhaps coincidentally affect Hiver policy.. since the Hiver policy of maintaining genetic conformity makes the Hivers very susceptible to a genetically keyed attack, unlike the more varied species out there.

Is a Manipulator behind all of this?

The PCs decide to head into Imperial controlled areas of the Solomani Rim since they are now persona non grata in Solomani space, and they have 1-2 new enemies..
