I'm planning - @dr_mitch 's request - to set up a Hangouts game (maybe with some Roll20 for maps) of Curse of Strahd, the 5th edition re-tread of I6 Ravenloft. I will most likely run this with Heroic Fantasy (@First Age 's hack of the Black Hack) with some tweaks for the setting. Elements of Krevborna may drift in.

It would most likely be a Monday or Tuesday night, fortnightly, probably 19:45 to around 22:15 starting around September (2019) time.

I currently have some interested players - @dr_mitch, @First Age, @Guvnor - but I'm happy with a few more. If you're interested, let me know.

Disclaimer for this campaign:

Wizards of the Coast cannot be held liable for any long-term side effects of venturing into the dread realm of Ravenloft, such as lycanthropy, vampirism, a fear of dead things, a fear of living things, an inability to sleep without a nightlight on and a +5 holy avenger under your pillow, and the unsettling suspicion that Strahd is too clever to be so easily defeated and that this is all just part of some grand scheme of his to extend his power beyond Barovia. You didn't think you could escape unless he wanted you to, did you?

I intend to run with HF, and understand that it may mean you don't want to play it.
Sorry, but the plan isn't 5e at the moment.

Okay, @Guvnor has indicated that he doesn't want to play if it's using Heroic Fantasy as the engine, which is cool. I want to use HF as it's a lot less overhead for me (and I bought the DracHack for this reason).

At the moment I have

@First Age
@Jagusti
@dr_mitch

Which is viable, but it'd be cool to get us up to four or five as it means it's easier to play if someone can't make it.

Just to say that I have started reading Curse of Strahd.

Although I am planning to use HF at the moment, I’m not ruling out 5e D&D as I will probably buy the Roll 20 module to use for maps etc.

Interesting. If you do go 5e, I'd be excited to see how that plays in campaign (having only ever played the odd one shot) as well as experiencing Roll20 with whistles and bells. Happy either way though - whatever works best for you.

(On playing a Paladin) What a great idea!
Now to think who to play when my first character dies, about 30 minutes into the first session...
You know, as I read the 5e player's handbook I note that a Paladin who had taken the Oath of Devotion would actually be very useful to a group. As you say though, you may as well paint a target on them. A cross (hair) perhaps?

In seriousness, if someone did go down this route, they wouldn't get targeted based on just being a Paladin. The attacks on the party will depend upon their actions and the perceived danger. And you have to consider that Strahd is supremely confident in his powers and would be more interested in seeing the Paladin fail or lose faith, rather than outright destroying them. Think of a bored cat with a mouse, hoping for entertainment.

All, heads up. As some of you know, the Alien game we planned to finish on Tuesday has had to be postponed due to player availability. Knock on affect is that the start of this will most likely be in November (as @dr_mitch's TOR game is running a tight season in September with no spaces to slip between). I'm going to liaise with @First Age to work the dates out to allow Coriolis and this to run alongside.

Making the assumption that 5th Nov is out (because kids, fireworks) and that we'd probably want to stop around 10th Dec this year (although I'm open to go longer). I'll share a doodle poll between the two games later to allow us to align player and GM availability.
