[Featherstone Northumberland] UK Convention in a castle? 🏰

#2
For those not concerned about venturing further afield CarcosaCon is held in a Polish castle next March, Leviathan in a French castle next May and Hydriades on a Swiss castle also next May (probably last weekend) . Having been to two out of three of these (Poland at the end of March seemed a bit chilly for me) I can vouch for a very nice welcome to English gamers. Much if not most of the gaming is in English as the common language between gamers from multiple countries.

And there's no way of checking it out without a FarceBook log-in.
Yeah. I know that kids today take that crap for granted, but somebody needs to explain to certain con organisers that some people not only do not have Facebook accounts, but refuse to do so for sane reasons, and are not going to look at their con pages if it means drinking that particular poison.

I've had a nagging desire to organise a con (or a games weekend at least) in a castle for about 20 years now. Went up to the far north to check out Carbisdale Castle when it was a youth hostel you could hire.
I was interested in this (Northumberland would make it the closest English con!) but as others have said the Facebook group as organisation approach is a turn-off. Plus I'm already busy that weekend with Tabletop Scotland.
It did make me start checking out castles to hire again, though. I've been trying to get a cottage con arranged for my group of friends for a couple years, so double incentive. Turns out there are quite a lot of them in the area, if you are flexible on your definition of castle...

Just to elucidate further, in Scotland there are only 2 castles in the Norman curtain wall and keep variety of which I am aware: Edinburgh and Sterling. However you will find plenty of brown signs for Something Castle.

Many of these are fortified houses like http://scotlandwelcomesyou.com/eilean-donan-castle/ from the days of warring clans. Then there are confections such as https://visitangus.com/glamis-castle/ which are really stately homes.
