Lost the link, but MIT recently discovered that all surfaces act as mirrors, and the human eye can't see the reflections but smartphones can. The effect of this is that image processing can reconstruct 3D locations from photographs, producing images of things that are hidden behind objects or around corners. So potentially no fog of war in SF scenarios, your helmet visor shows everything around that corner or behind that building.

It appears to be called 'Computational Periscopy', which is quite a fancy SF name.

Looks like it will need some funky processing to calibrate a given reflection surface before it can show you what's around the corner, but I bet there's an application for those super-accelerated deep neutral networks there.
