Morning; bit of a shambolic DDAL game frankly. But we rolled with it. Then to keep numbers up and let no one down I played the second half again with the same GM. Lolz

DCC game in evening was utterly sound as a pound.
Well setup, smooth, and a rather nice setting and a good plot.

Scenario Description: King Frangan MacLaren has a deal for you and he drives a hard bargain.

In fact, it’s an offer you can’t refuse. But hey, it’s a mission for peace, so it should be easy, right?

Set in the Pax Lexque campaign setting, using the new Isles of the Celts supplement. Part 1 of a 2 part adventure. Not required to play in both.

I viewed AlbaCon as a huge success.
Very good booking site.
Complex but very well laid-out and signposted use of Discord.
Clear player and GM support and help via Discord.
Great range of DDAL games, DCC representation and some others.
Would suggest drawing in some PFS games.
Excellent giveaways and use of Discord to run that, and a gr8 package of online discount codes from people like FL, Modiphus, ARU, RTalsorian and others .. take note Garricons..
I'd say that they should run it again next year.

The only problem is the one with all online cons that adopt a consumerist and not a collective approach, people can simply choose to not 'buy' you game and slots are not filled and GMs and/or players are let down.

The alternative is the collective approach, you sign up to the con and you preferences are noted but in the final analysis you will get a game and you are also obliged to turn up and play.. which is closer to what happens at a well run IRL con.

I viewed AlbaCon as a huge success.
Thanks! We're having a post con review tomorrow night and every bit of survey feedback will be considered, should we do this again ;-)

So the definitions you're using (consumerist / collective) are alien to me. I've never attended a con anywhere that had what sounds like a semi-random selection process to playing or running games. Appreciate it's probably not that random but I've always registered / booked cons knowing what I was going to run or play at the outset.

That said, we had a huge level of games submitted. Over 140 in total and we curated that back a little to the 124 that were published. Naturally we had no idea what would get booked and what wouldn't so we went with the "let's see what we get" approach knowing we'd need to curate it as we got closer to the event to ensure games had sufficient players to run.

Ultimately AlbaCon is a charity fundraiser through the act of playing RPGs.
Monetarily the costs for attendees are small, although I recognise that many cons don't apply fees to play, only to register for the con itself. I include historical Tabletop Scotland events in that mix where RPGs are free to play, can't speak to the future on that as yet.
All costs associated with running the con were absorbed by the team. To be clear, there were costs including having a Level 3 boosted Discord server for the con to provide a quality audio / video platform, but those were miniscule in comparison to an in-person event like Tabletop Scotland.

I'll no doubt post here when we come to a conclusion on 2021 plans, both from a Tabletop Scotland and AlbaCon perspective.

It was a great con and you ran it very very well.
My comments re game allocation are not pointed, but rather part of the ongoing debate about signups and managing demand versus supply, rationing versus a consumer model. There are cons that adopt a mix of random and allocation to achieve as close to 95% as possible.

I'll let others pipe in with other con examples.
