Nazis and dice

So I'm now halfway into the third season of Babylon Berlin and the story has lots of balls in the air. It's wonderfully done, and you can see the gathering darkness even though the characters can't truly see it. The belief of the conservatives that they can control the Nazi's is frightening, and you know that the Wall Street Crash is also coming. I really must get a game set up in this period (and I need to read both the CoC book and the Taschen Weimar Berlin Book).

Incidentally, I picked up a map of Berlin today for a couple of quid; one side has the city under National Socialism, the other covers the Cold War. Useful for a game sometime, I suspect.

I have exactly that map, Dom. Picked it up last time I was in Berlin for The Kraken. It's very useful if you are running a CoC Berlin game as is the one that comes with the book. I printed that out at A3 and laminated it for use in game.

I also have (somewhere) the 1940s allied intelligence map of Berlin, which is similarly nice. There is part of me that finds it very difficult to run a game like this, usually set somewhere real world, without a map. I spent a lot of time tracking down a near appropriate map of London for Hot War when I was running it. It's one of the things that stopped me getting into Cold City as much as I could have. Just a basic street map would have made a world of difference. I know it doesn't bother others, but it's just the way that I'm wired as a GM.

Grabbed them.
I really enjoyed Cold City.
Retooling it for thirties Berlin would work well, the Nazis had such a social Darwinism approach to organisation there were all sorts of competing sub groups, all jostling for power. Make it 28-31 and then you have a whole bunch of groups across the spectrum.

Humans are monstrous enough, you don't need the occult or Lovecraftian bit. Embrace the noir. This sounds fun.

The transitional period seem perfect to me as well, since there are some many factions, and so many possibilities.
Yes, assassinating Hitler has to be allowable.

Do you really need to justify buying such a marvellous piece of work that is a record of the history of our capital (or insert other suitable jingoistic phrasing to your taste).
Right now, absolutely. I suppose I could try and hide it in the pile of course books that has started to appear over the last week, but that pile is getting suspicious looks as it is. (And I may have hidden a couple of not-strictly-educational purchases in there already).

Ah well, you're screwed then. Buy your partner something nice as a pre-ordering gift to assuage their feelings of you are wasting time and money on role playing games etc.
