Would there be interest in daytime pick up games?

The primary reason is to have a social release for those who are working at home or self isolating.

Many gamers, including myself, have mental health vulnerability, and this kind of scenario is bound to make anyone down or anxious.

On the other hand, if you are as bright as a button, raise your hand as well.

I was thinking of possibly putting a Game together to 'keep everyone's spirits up.' Possibly Numenera?

It's ironic really; I've been off work for 4 months due to my shoulder surgery and now, just when I could go back; I probably can't because
a) I'm high-risk (diabetic)
b) I work in a public-facing office dealing all sorts of customers (Civil Service)

Having said that, we've faced crises before and got through them (1970's oil, power cuts, three-day week, petrol and bread shortages etc.) An on-line Game or two could do a lot to help ease tensions and provide a safety valve.

If I did put a Game together, it would be PbF, not 'on-line real-time.' I've run several PbF's before on a 48 hour turnround and they've worked quite well.

I have been told by work that as of today I need to self-isolate because of my asthma. That means I cannot go to work and I cannot go out anywhere. Not for foreseeable future. So unfortunately I cannot go out and do the one thing I enjoy the most and that is game with friends. That means I have to indoors and play in online games.

I'm sorry @Brass Jester, Numenera doesn't interest me. I have played it and it wasn't to my liking.

A Roll20/Discord game would interest me.

@Brass Jester Numenera does interest me, does Blue Rose appeal to anyone?
I can also run Dr.Who, Space 1889, 5e D&D and Traveller.
No previous experience required.

Might be interested in a PbF Blue Rose game. (Current Bundle of Holding offering?)

However, I'd prefer something for evenings rather than daytime - I am supposed to be working after all.

Space 1889 would be fun. Is that Ubiquity or Savage Worlds?
I'd use Ubiquity for 1889 online.

Might be interested in a PbF Blue Rose game. (Current Bundle of Holding offering?
Yes @Maddz, that Blue Rose, it's quite upbeat and good in a tolerant liberal manner.

I think I'd like to know how a PbF game works @Brass Jester
I can and will create sub-forums in Actual Play to support any and all games as requested.

@Maddz However, I'd prefer something for evenings rather than daytime - I am supposed to be working after all.
I hear you, and that's also in the poll. However some folks might appreciate a daytime game since they really can't work from home and it may ward off the stir-crazy.

Let's see what other people (like @First Age and @Dom or @GuyMilner for example) say, then we will have a much better idea of how many people are up for this and how we shall organise it.

Ok, I’m likely to be in work as I’m part of of crisis management team for COVID-19. So this is out for me. However, as posted elsewhere, we are considering organising/coordinating a virtual North Star.

"I think I'd like to know how a PbF game works @Brass Jester"

How does a Play by Forum Game work?

Basically, it’s the same as a FTF Game, except it doesn’t play in real-time.
The GM posts the description/ situation on the forum.
The PC’s then respond to this by posting their response. Usually a time limit is set for responses (I typically use 48 hours, but this can be flexible.) If some PC’s have not responded; then it’s assumed they are ok with the situation or have nothing to add.
The GM then posts the next part and so on.

It sounds a little long-winded, but in practice it actually works quite well. It allows Players time to think about their response; because it’s not in real-time then players who are at work (Dom, Maddz), could still join in.

Die-rolling can be tricky; my last two Games were on RPGGeek, which does have a die-roller. However, the twin letter system works fairly well.

If you want to make a roll then you specify a two-letter combination from the alphabet; I look this up on my master table and tell you the results. I modified the Numenera system slightly to allow for expenditure of xp for re-rolls (etc.)

E.g.
You: ‘I examine the strange device using Scan. Roll HG’
GM: ‘You haven’t succeeded in figuring out what the device is. You can spend an xp to reroll.’

In Numenera, the emphasis is on exploration and discovery; so I try and keep die rolling to a minimum.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here are a few real examples from my ‘Tears of the Gods’ Game (around December 2016): -

Brass Jester
Ooro
The swarm of wasps draws closer through the murky waters underneath the City of Bridges; twisting effortlessly round the piers and towers of the city. The large swarm splits into several smaller swarms as they attack you, two wasps at you, Uinia and the other two skeane.

Roll Initiative

YimouZha
You remember Frater Bellias saying that he had never seen your like before and that he would welcome the chance to study you more; in fact he wasn’t the first person to say it (?)

The Library can communicate in Lightspeech; however the dialect and words are very old (analogue rather than digital, if you like.)

GM: The Library is not infallible; it only knows what it has been told. However, you are not an Aeon Priest; any amendments have to be ratified by the Circulus; the ruling body of the Arechive.
----------------------------------
YimouZha
When will it be apparent that Ooro is not with the group? YMZ will try to use the Psychic Communique cipher to communicate with him.
---------------------------------
Brass Jester
It's apparent now that he isn't with you; he didn't return from the shopping trip.
---------------------------------
YimouZha
Realizing that Ooro is not with the group, YimouZha activates the Psychic Communicator.

"Ooro? Where are you? You're missing out on a delectable breakfast! Yes, there is more fermented squirrel here!"

The Golthiar holds the device, wondering if there'll be a response...
------------------------------------------------
Brass Jester
YimouZha
You drive the spike on the root ball deep into your brain

Take 1 Might damage (ambient)

The Psychic Communicator allows a one-way telepathic message of no more than 10 words.

Ooro
Just as you are about to face the wasps; suddenly an image of YimouZha pops into your mind and you hear him say

"Ooro? Where are you? You're missing out on a delectable”

This is somewhat distracting: -

Roll Initiative TWICE and take the lowest number as your Initiative for the combat.

GM: You cannot reply, the cypher is one-way only

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Okay, that gives an idea of how a PbF plays out.

As an aside, Ooro never returned from the water under the City of Bridges; so the Mercurial Wasps must have got him.

I’m in the UK, Ooro’s player was in California and YimouZha was in Hong Kong.

Not just in the daytime though..

Between working from home now and Marjory being in the hospital, something like this is really handy at the moment. Though while I'm still allowed to visit the hospital I will. But it will be nice to know it's there.

I'd use Ubiquity for 1889 online.
I'd be interested in given this ago.

Play by Forum
I've tried this once before. A chap in my old Dr Who Yahoo Group ran one in which I played the Third Doctor. I must say I wasn't taken with the idea. I'll probably read through it as it develops, but I won't play.

I'm also running Coriolis online.
@First Age - What's the system like? What sort of mechanic does it use?

I would be interested in PbF - working daytimes (at home or in work ([not frontline] NHS) and will be (happily) distracted by children soon coming home from University early for [insert unknown duration], but i could probably handle the PbF response times. Blue Rose sounds interesting (but... must resist Bundle of Holding temptation... resistance is useless.... ) but I don’t have strong preferences. Happy to play anything someone is willing give up time and energy to run under these circumstances.

I too would be interested in an a Blue Rose game (PbF or otherwise). I have the dead tree version of the core rules.

In theory I'm working from home (they haven't sorted a computer yet). I could do some evenings, some mornings or some afternoons, in theory. Rumour has it that our work systems can't handle the traffic, so gettig online in the morning is a problem!
