The Tea Master and the Detective

Product Description
“A window onto a beautifully developed world that widens the meaning of space opera.” —New York Times

Once, the mindship known as The Shadow's Child was a military transport. Once, she leapt effortlessly between stars and planets, carrying troops and crew for a war that tore the Empire apart. Until an ambush killed her crew and left her wounded and broken.

Now the war is over, and The Shadow's Child, surviving against all odds, has run away. Discharged and struggling to make a living, she has no plans to go back into space. Until the abrasive and arrogant scholar Long Chau comes to see her. Long Chau wants to retrieve a corpse for her scientific studies: a simple enough, well-paid assignment.

There's a price drop on David Wishart's Marcus Corvinus series over at Amazon:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/search/?...price-asc-rank

They range from 99p to £2.99. I personally didn't like the few I read (I didn't find them very accurate compared to Steven Saylor or John Maddox Roberts), but others may like them.
How do they compare with Davis' Falco books? The Falco books a good enough mix of history and modern for me..

The few of Wishart's books I read left me wincing over the bad history. Unfortunately, I'd read Lindsey Davis, Stephen Saylor and John Maddox Roberts first and found Wishart's less rigorous attitude to history distracting to say the least.

Then I shall pass

It's possible he's improved - it was some years ago I read his books. IIRC, I read the stand-alone Sejanus and 2 or 3 of the early Corvinus series. It was Sejanus that put me off Wishart.

As @Maddz says, the Monthly deals are pretty weak this month. These are the ones (aside from those above) that stood out to me. There are a few interesting looking textbooks in there but I haven't added them as I doubt I'd ever get around to reading them.

The Girl in the Spider's Web (Millennium series 4) David Lagercranz £0.99
https://smile.amazon.co.uk/Girl-Spi...sr_1_28?qid=1559387061&s=digital-text&sr=1-28

Viking Britain: A History Thomas Williams £0.99
https://smile.amazon.co.uk/Viking-B..._1_184?qid=1559387323&s=digital-text&sr=1-184

The Thirty-Nine Steps John Buchan £0.99
