[watching] What have you seen recently?

Currently watching The Capture on BBC. Very gripping and scary about the manipulation of what we see and perceive. No spoilers, but Ep 4 was an eye-opener.

Spoiler Alert! Spoiler Alert! Spoiler Alert!

In the book he a member of a military order (The Envoys), in the TV series he becomes a member of a terrorist group. From what I can tell so far the Envoys which were the military group is now the name of the terrorists/rebels, but he was a member of some sort of government military unit or just a mercenary before he switches to the Envoys.

Presumably we are going to be more immediately hooked by a mercenary/terrorist/rebel than a guy who was in the military? Either that or they think they can get a better story out of it which I have yet to see. The only explanation I have found is that it supposedly "exacerbated the divide between him and the present day world". I can't even see why he needed to feel more out of place than he already did. I am not even going to talk about the fusion of two female characters into one. It is rather jarring.

Spoiler Alert! Spoiler Alert! Spoiler Alert!

All that said watch it, good series.
if I remember correctly the Envoys are UN agents (or the equivalent) and the protagonist turns from them at some point. But it’sa while since I read the series.

Started a few episodes of The Good Place on Netflix. Season 4 is shaping up to be fun and a much anticipated return.

Netflix and Amazon seem to be getting some interesting shows in October. On my radar are Swamp Thing (A), Big Mouth (N), Raising Dion (N), Mr Robot (A), Daybreak (N). Sky Atlantic has 2 shows in October which I am interested in Catherine the Great and Watchmen. Oh and Young Sheldon is back on E4.

Now just need to find the time to fit them in to watch next month.

That’s it all over, the last episode of Preacher on Amazon Prime. It started as okay in S1 and I was not too sure about the adaptation. Once it hit the road, the Series really jumped into a higher gear. Each Season then kept getting better.

The last scene was a great way to end it all. It is definitely worth the watch and would recommend. I will not post spoilers as if you had not seen it before or have not caught up will not want to spoil your joy of it.

I'm sorry to say, after ploughing through more episodes, I felt that Carnival Row was utter garbage. Too many TV cliches, and when they had a good idea going they wrapped it up in a single episode! Sorry, it's a No from me.

On the other hand, I felt that the first season of The Man in the High Castle was excellent.

I am catching up on my DCU films. Now you will laugh but that means watching Man of Steel. Which I did yesterday late afternoon and really enjoyed. I watched Aquaman a few weeks ago and enjoyed it. I think it's Big Blue Vs the Black Bat next isn't it?

I really enjoyed most of the DC films, Tom, with the exception of Suicide Squad. So you’re not alone.
Really enjoyed Batman versus Superman.
Dark, nuanced, good performances, loved Lex Luthor, Wonder Woman steals it at the end. Lois Lane stands on her own two feet.
Great.

Not IPR, IRS. Set up somewhere (Vancouver?) offering incentives such as tax breaks to get studios there. Let them build an entire swamp sun a studio and then pulled the support. I guess they thought once the studio was committed.....

I guess they didn’t know the mindset of Hollywood execs.....

Just seen Joker. It is a fantastic “origin” story of the Joker. Joaquin Phoenix has a creeping menace as he goes down the path of a mental breakdown and becomes the Joker. If you are looking for a “Supers” film you will be disappointed. It does have a great theme the treatment of people with mental health issues and how Society treats them.

I do hope Joaquin’s Joker is not a one shot. I do hope he appears again in later DCU films. He is so mesmerising as Joker and in my opinion I can see why people are saying it is an Oscar Nomination Performce.

Everyone who has seen it so far has said how wonderful Joker is. I'm looking forward to it.
Here’s a vote against. But, hey, we all know know where MY interests and values lie. And studying/understanding/empathising with the one of the bad guys isn’t my kettle of fish.

Had its moments though.

I think I come out thinking if this director made an analysis of Batman’s descent into psychosis THAT might be a film worth watching.

(Followed of course by the inevitable Batman vs. Joker trilogy finale.)

Started Swamp Thing on Amazon Prime. It is a shame they cancelled the Series after only 1 season. It is a very well shot and scripted Show. It is a good Supers Horror Show and deserves a watch.

Watched Ad Astra on Friday night. It was really good, both gripping and moving with some fantastic scenes.

I can understand why some people might take against it, my partner found it a bit slow but thought it was good nonetheless.

Hi AndyE, your response is only the second positive one I've seen for Ad Astra. I'm still sceptical about going to see it at the cinema and will probably wait until it starts streaming.

Watched Wonder Woman last Friday. Little slow in parts but we'll written and I enjoyed the character of WW and the semi steampunk version of WW1.

Ok, really enjoyed Justice League. Well paced, good teamwork. Good witticisms and buddy humour. Probably needed another female superhero. Best DCU film so far.
