[shopping] What have you splurged on recently?

It is THAC0 and is meant as a faithful representation of B/X. The ascending AC is added as an option, not the default.

The author explains all here: Author's notes on Old School Essentials
Thanks for confirming this, I read something similar and why I got so excited by this "Old School Essentials" Kickstarter since it is primarily derived from the Dungeons and Dragons B/X (Basic/Expert) boxes, unlike the Rules Cyclopedia that seems to venture further into Frank Mentzer's BECMI rule sets (Basic/Expert/Companion/Master/Immortal).

The Rules Cyclopedia is Mentzer's BECM reprinted in one reference volume, barring a few errata. The Immortals set was reworked as The Wrath Of The Immortals box set, and the rules are significantly different (and possibly more payable, I couldn't say).

I'm a big fan of the RC, a top book. If it included more of the Gazetteer optional rules (it has the skill system, I think) it would be everything you would ever need for D&D.

By the way, Newt, did Milton Davies or Balogun Ojetade contact you with regards to using Open Quest for their planned "Ki Khanga" new edition Kickstarter?
nope, but then again they were very close to publication when they mentioned it on the facebook group.

It's now out on Amazon, in both print and kindle editions.

Andy Jones has bought a copy and has some photos on a post over at Basic Roleplaying Central

Just to note that the Infinity Kickstarter 2d20 splurge of long ago continues to churn out setting, guides and mini adventures.

Even less excuse not to run this beautiful beast of a game at North Star...

Wave 2 below. There's a Wave 3 yet...

Valkyrie Nine and Mother’s Love were my main purchases at North Star. I played V9 at the con and I read Mother’s Love before I purchased the gorgeous hardcover version with a ribbon. Also bought 2 sanity dice.

The d10 set was bought for Blue Planet and felt thematically right.

The Coriolis Scenario Compendium came from the Kickstarter and was a pleasant surprise when I got home tonight.

Silent Titans by Patrick Stuart and Dirk Detweiler Letchey has arrived. It is very pretty. It is OSR, using Into the Odd and is also set in a surreal version of the Wirral Peninsula
