[shopping] What have you splurged on recently?

Picked up A Time for Sacrifice from New Comet Games via Backerkit. It has several CoC scenarios based in Mesoamerica and having run some of Mysteries of Mesoamerica (Pagan Press) I rather like the different non-US setting.

The Drinaxian Companion, new from Mongoose to support The Pirates of Drinax Traveller campaign. Only available in PDF at the moment, print is in pre-order. The PDF is a bit on the pre-print "pay money to do our proof reading" side as well.

This is a 225 page book (including front cover) that bring together the 10 existing PDF-only expansion books for Pirates with a bunch of additional material on how to be a pirate, how to achieve the goals of the campaign, some more new starship types, rules for building your own pirate base, factions and intelligence networks.

There are something like 90 pages of new stuff here, I estimate, with the rest being straight reprints of the older PDFs. Is it worth buying? If you've just picked up Pirates, then I would say a definite yes. It's £20 in PDF (£37 print), which is the same as Pirates of Drinax itself (as PDF - Drinax is a lot more expensive in dead tree!), but that's still cheaper than buying the separate PDF books. There is a lot of really good info in here, that will really help in running the campaign. I could (and would) argue that a decent amount of it should have been in the main campaign in the first place, but I guess there is only so much space in the print books.

If you already spent £40-50 on buying the PDFs you might be a little annoyed at having the chance to buy them again for less. Is the new material worth £20? Debatable. If you thought the other PDFs were value for money, then I guess so.

And here I thought my small Mongoose Traveller collection was complete. I got the Pirates of Drinax Boxset from Jim at Patriot Games. Will probably wait for the print version of this new book and pick it up there too.
